Developing Competences for Maternity Nurses during Labor and Immediate Postpartum Period Regarding Prevention of Postpartum Hemorrhage

Background: Postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) prevention is the main stay and corner stone to achieve millennium developmental goal 5 (MDG5). Maternity nurses play a crucial role in maternal morbidity reduction resulting from PPH competency of maternity directly affects quality treatment health outcomes. Aim: was develop competences for maternity during labor immediate postpartum period regarding hemorrhage. Design: A quasi-experimental design used. Setting: The research carried out hospital at Zagazig university hospitals, Sharkia Governorate, Egypt. Subjects: included fifty provided direct nursing care women period. Tools: Four instruments were used; this study, structured interviewing questionnaire; that includes socio-demographic data nurses, knowledge about control hemorrhage, an observational checklist nurses' practice, attitude intervention program. Results: results study showed there improvement nurse’s knowledge, practice attitudes toward after developing nurses. Also, positive correlation between nurses' score their scores, performance scores age. Conclusion: there highly statistically significant nurses’ level third stage prevent implementation educational intervention program compared pre intervention. Recommendations: Offer training programs or workshops developing competency regarding hemorrhage develop best practice.
